I am a cool, chic and fun loving New York City professional actor with lots theatre experience spreading my wings into commercials and film/TV. I believe in technique, practice and acting my ass-off!

I am originally from Panama. Yes, I am a Bi-lingual Afro Latina! My philosophy is “Life is Short – Say Yes and Go with the flow!”

You can catch me roller skating to music in Central Park in the Summer and ice skating at Bryant Park in the Winter. If you are really lucky, maybe in Bermuda, Turks & Caicos, London, Paris, Zurich, Instanbul, Italy or anywhere in the world enjoying new cultures/food, art & architecture and theater.

BIO

Andy Young (Actor/Playwright/Producer) is the writer, actor and producer of Crossing Over; Panamanian-Bilingual (English/Spanish); proud recipient of NYS Council of the Arts Grant; founding member of New Short Play Festival; has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Best Play for past 7 seasons in works by Michael Susko, David Bellantoni and Fred Stroppel. Recent roles: Andy (“Crossing Over”); Jessie Mae/Thelma (“A Trip to Bountiful”); Cathleen (“Dividing the Estate”); and, Harriet Tubman(“Freedom Train”). Awesome Ice skater and Rollerskater. Interested in Film/TV, Theatre & Commercials.

Have 25 years in the film and theatre industry. In the past 2 year, including the pandemic, I have worked on over 25 projects.

I am a Founding Member of 2 NYC theatre companies (“The Network Theatre Company” & “The New Short Play Festival”). These 2 theatre companies are safe spaces where writers, directors and actors can create and perfect their craft with 10 minutes plays.

I have done 4 National theatre tours. Performed in some of the best theatres and performing centers in the US, such as the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and Alabama Theatre. Performed in grand areas right down to schools across America.

I have studied with some masters in the field, such as Karen Kohlhaas (Founding Member of the Atlantic Theatre Company); Deloss Brown (former teach at Julliard); Paul Michael (acting coach, producer, mentor); and various casting directors and directors.

You can find me ice skating in Bryant Park in the Winter and rollerskating in Central Park in the Summer. Holla!

WHAT’S UP

2022-2023 were interesting years!

In 2022, I tried writing for the first time. In a “Letters To My Mother”, sponsored by ATC, I wrote and performed a 5 min monologue (all clips below). I am also started preparing for Karen Kohlhaas’ 20-Monologue Challenge. These 2 factors lead to bigger events.

After learning 20 monologues, I decided something had to be done with them. I got the idea of taking these monologues and turning into a show, a one woman to show to be exact. I wrote, performed and produced, “Crossing Over” in November 2022. The play was performed in a theatre in Midtown Manhattan.

With the grant I received from NYSCA ( NYS Council of the Arts), I was able to bring live theater to my community. (videos below).

“Crossing Over” was well attended and received. There is interest and new developments for taking the show on the road.

I also performed in Michael Susko’s a new play, “F*ck, Marry, Kill (FMK)” which was part of the NY Festival and was well received. In “FMK”, I was one of the leads and spoke English, Spanish and Mandarin. I also discovered how great it is to work on a new play while it is still being created. It an actor’s dream.

I am working on a new play. Let’s see what the universe has for me in 2024!

THE COVID YEARS (2020-2022):

I have kept myself very busy during our Covid19 Lockdown. I have been perfecting my on camera presence with scene and monologue courses via zoom with the wonderful Karen Kohlhaas. I have taken Shakespeare classes with the great master, Deloss Brown. Now, I have over 10 Shakespeare monologues in my pocket!

Since our industry is moving towards videotaped auditions, I have built my own mini video recording studio, with professional backdrops, lighting, sound, etc. Now, I can create and record in my studio.

The Covid19 lockdown has taught me how to create new opportunities.

I totally immersed myself in zoom readings. These reading, have been terrific for me to showcase my versatility. For instance, I can play the roles an Opera Diva in Michael Susko’s “Carmen’s Last Stand” and, Stephanie in “The Gift Exchange” and more. This lead me to understand that there are opportunities out there if you keep working and look for them.
